Personal Expression Project
This was an incredibly hard, but fun project. This is one of the few projects were we get to choose whatever we want to do. For this one, i decided to upload a picture as me after snowboarding. I used direction with background and words to emphasize direction. I purposely misspelled genius to bring out the word below it: hilarious. The hardest part was making the background flow with my picture and colors of text.

Live Trace
Personal Choice Logo

I made this a while ago, but i haven't gotten around to posting it. I've always loved BMW's, so i decided to do its logo. I thought it would be easy at first, but it proved me wrong. I spent half the day trying to figure out how to match the colors inside the circle. I ended up using two squares and the circle then used pathfinder with the different colored shapes. it was a hard project, but it was fun.

quote REVISITED

The majority of all comments where positive, so i didn't have much to work on. The only two hints I got (you know who you are) were to match the rainbow from the quote and intense, and that it was difficult to read overall. First i edited the colors, and I chose to incorporate "SO" in the rainbow. As for the difficulty to read, I added emphasis. The first 3 letters have declining font as so that it draws attention to the beginning and easy to read.

10 Pictures
This picture I found very interesting. The artist used very dark and dull colors to convey the feeling of dread and fear. The very appearance of this figure triggers a defensive response due to its armor and weapons. The artist uses the same colors with the character and the background, but he uses different colors and textures around the edges so he stands out more predominantly.
This is a very great example of the background flowing smoothly with the main picture itself.
The rain creates linear rhythm and the dark shade of blue creates sadness. The blurred rain also implies movement.
This is a picture of the famous Escher Waterfall. The thing that i find very interesting is that it bends reality to fit the artists imagination. The structure is impossible to create in reality, yet it is possible due to the limitless world of drawing. i like the calming feel of the water and the smoothness of the scenario of black and white. It is confusing to look at, and very puzzling, but also a masterpiece.
The pillars in the drawing create linear rhythm and the river's zig-zags draw attention. The boldness of the shade of black brings attention from the lightly shaded background.
This is a futuristic concept art found on deviantart, a website devoted to sharing wonderful drawings, literary works, and ideas. I found this very interesting due to it being insight to the future. It is hand drawn and colored, but i feel it is purposely given the since of unnaturalness. The colors are very faded, and shows what could happen when a man is stopped in the future by a giant mech. Not only did they display this scenario, but the depict the world around them, illustrating the mountains, buildings, and environment. This is a masterpiece that deserves more than just Google.
The dark shading implies dread, while the light in the background shows hope. The extreme detail of the mech draws emphasis to it. Also, with it looking down upon a human, it shows its proportion.
For a while, pictures like these were the marketing centerpiece of iPods. The picture itself is quite remarkable, displaying a normal person shaded black, with the background in bright colors and the iPod the only thing with color. The iPod white versus the person black counteract each other so that they are very noticeable. The bright colors in the background make the scene happier, wanting the observer to jump in and join him in his fanatical dancing and listen to iPods.
The light shade of purple makes this very exhilarating and exiting. Due to the lack of colors, it emphasizes the person and the iPod. They used the 1/3 rule and focused the attention on the right side of the image.
This is a random picture of nature at its finest. Yes, there are many like this, but i like this one in particular. For one, the light perfectly shines through the leaves to both light the area and gives the trees a more relaxing presence. Also, the river look as if mist is hovering above the river, causing a more heavenly presence. Last but not least, the combination of these elements causes a relaxing scene and a tranquil location.
The light green of the leaves expresses life and nature, while the rivers foggy white gives a spiritual feeling. The trees overhanging the river give it a circular quality to it, bringing peace.
This is a picture of mushrooms. Hearing this might cause lost of interest, but its the pictures sight that causes you to awe. The shade of blue causes it to blend perfectly with the shading of the backdrop and appear to shine. You can also see the other side of the object though itself, seeming more than surreal. On top of that, the background and the color scheme draws all of your attention to the mushroom, leaving no room to miss it.
The darker shad of blue gives a mysterious feel to the image. Since the mushrooms are the only thing lighted, it brings emphasis to the middle and little attention is diverted elsewhere. The curved stalk gives a feeling of calm.
This is a picture of space. It is not from a camera though, for it is hand drawn and painted. its amazing how he uses spacing between meteors and planets to create distance. Also, his use of details make the objects come to life. The most amazing thing though is how he only uses one color to make this scene. With just the color yellow, he pains this entire drawing, using shading to create shadows and distance.
The planets next to the meteors helps show the proportion and the color gives an overwhelming feeling. The shade of the color also helps demonstrate the distance between objects.
This is a piece of steam-punk concept art. He uses the retro-mechanical works of steam-punk to recreate a penguin to look like an intellectual scientist. Just by looking at this tells the story about a penguin scientist and his little assistant studying stalagmites. He uses these shaded colors to make it look like a cartoon, but very detailed. Through this fantasy world, he could recreate an image from his imagination and bring it to life.
The pastel colors bring out a sophisticated feel and the dark background grants emphasis on the characters in front. The light shining through the stalagmite helps show it better from hiding in the background and the texture is smooth.
This is one of the most well known pieces of art in japan. It is a painting of a tidal wave from a storm crashing into boats. The way they detail the wave is impeccable, and the bold colors make it the center of attention. The contrast between the background and the wave itself is opposite, drawing the attention to one and not the other. The painting is older than most people alive, yet its beauty has lasted the ages.
The waves give a linear pattern, and the 1/3's rule leaves the top right hand corner empty. The dull colors don't shine up the page, bringing a feeling of dread for the sailors, rather than happiness for the beauty of the wave.
This is a drawing on the first page of the book "World War Z". It depicts the Battle of Yonkers, in which the zombies and humans had their first major confrontation. This drawing is unique in multiple ways. One, the painting is through the eyes of a zombie. It helps better illustrate the fear in their eyes and the situation. It also is a cartoon in black in white, probably to reduce the horror, but still is amazing. A third is the background itself. it shows not only the people, but where they are at and what is happening.
This last photo is in black and white, with a lot of value in shading. There isn't much of any emphasis, but the two hands reaching out give a perspective view on the picture. The 1/3rds rule didn't apply with this photo, but its view is good enough on its own.
